Glad To Be of Service

Tanya Judon-Winston, Associate Broker with Ricks Lifelong Realty, Inc.

Mar 07, 2008

I was so excited the morning of March 7th.  I was on my way to help Habitat build a home.  WOW!  I’ve been preparing for this moment for a week; letting people know that I will be out of the office on Friday.  I read the story in the paper and knew this was a cause worth donating my time to.

When Friday came, my friends and family called to wish me luck and told me to be careful. When I arrived at the site, I was surprised to see that there were many homes being built. Even though it was a little dreary outside, the environment felt warm.  It was because of all the love there. Once given our assignments, we worked together as if we had been friends forever.

It’s amazing to see what goes into the building of a house. I was overwhelmed with gratitude as if it were my own house being built.  Reading the article in the paper is one thing, yet meeting the homeowner along with other volunteers touched my heart even deeper. I plan to share my experience with friends, family and co workers hoping that they will make the time to contribute to a worthy cause.

When I got home everyone asked about my day.  It felt wonderful sharing my experience and setting an example for my children.  I put my work shoes and jacket away, anxiously waiting for the next day I volunteer :) .
